How do I feel about being an online student? That is a question that can have a variety of answers. In some ways it can be a good thing but in other ways it can be rough.
The anonymity of an online class is intriguing because it leaves you wonder what the face looks like behind the words of text that are typed. Also It hard to have a true discussion with others when you are not face to face, as it is sometimes difficult to interpret the true meaning behind the words, is the other person just joking, or are they serious.
What I enjoy most about the online classes is the flexibility. Since I am a mother of three it is not always easy to find daycare. I like that I can sit home in my pajamas while my children are in bed and attend my classes and do my homework. I don’t have to worry about who is going to watch my children.
I am not a procrastinator so I am always on top of things. Thus, self-directed courses are not hard for me to manage. I have to be able to manage my time efficiently in order to meet the required class deadlines. However, the downfall with on-line courses is that it requires a lot more work. You have to attend a seminar and post discussion questions, verses in a classroom setting where there is less writing due to oral discussion of the topic matter.
I do wonder sometimes why I pay all this money to have my education taught to me, when really I am for the most part I am teaching myself. However, learning this way prepares me for employment in the real world, where I may have to teach myself numerous subjects in order to do my job efficiently and effectively.
